What is a biography?

A biography is defined as an account of someone's life written by another person. In contrast, a fictional story about a person's life would fall into the realm of creative writing or fiction rather than biography. A brief summary of a book's content is more correctly classified as a synopsis or summary, which does not convey the detailed exploration of a person's life that a biography does. Likewise, a narrative poem is a literary format that tells a story through verse and does not relate to the factual recounting of someone's life experiences as biographies do.
